The Covid-19 has crippled human psyche and world economy. Most of countries have brought advisory for strict lockdown. Social distancing is the corner stone of our fight against Covid-19. So home staying is the best thing we can do to limit the transmission. Everywhere there are extensive discussions about Covid-19. But we will discuss a different fact,a very fundamental fact. Sometimes facts are stranger than fiction. It’s about a question. The question is about our brain. This question raising debates for milleniums.
That question has baffled us from time immemorial. The question is!!!!
‘What is the difference between male and female Brain’
The ideas of differences between the male and female brain have circulated since the time of ancient greek philosophers around 850 BC. Due to that difference in brain males and females suffer from different psychiatric and neurological diseases.
It’s a huge controversial discussion among neuroscientists. Many people believe the difference in brains are due to learning and behavior from childhood and due to effect of society. Many other neuroscientists think it’s made like this from birth due to evolutionary needs.
Are male and female brains different according to function: yes
Are men’s and women’s brains wired differently: yes more interhemispheric connection in female
Why are male and female brains different: evolutionary need and effect of society
Male vs female brain Size
The male brain is 10 percent bigger than female brain on average. But that doesn’t make them smarter. The average male brain is 1260 cc whereas female brain is 1130 cc.
Male vs female brain function
(some researchers think it’s due to differences in wiring of brain)
Task specific activities
Our brain has two hemispheres. The left one and right one. In female brain the connection is very strong. Where as in males the connections inside the brain is more strong. Some researchers argue that. That’s why a female can help her kids with the homework while rustling up the family dinner, checking updates on WhatsApp, and keeping an eye on what’s happening in her favorite TV show at a time. But men learn and execute tasks in isolation better like driving and motor works and get irritated when multiple tasks are given. Males are more efficient in crude motor tasks whereas females are marvelous in fine motor works.
Thinking and analysis
The left hemisphere of brain is place of logical thinking where as right hemisphere is the seat of intuition. Our brain has one lobe more dominant. In most of times it’s the left lobe. In male brain the non dominant lobe is weak. That’s why they have less intuitive ability. But females posses strong intuition because both hemispheres act equally.
Calculation, time, speed, tracking moving objects, and at aiming projectiles are better done by male brain. Language, music etc are easily processed by female brain. That makes males can’t express well themselves verbally.
Stronger emotions are virtue of female brain. Therefore better at managing relationships, empathizing, articulating and expressing themselves creatively, and appreciating beauty. That’s because they have stronger limbic system. That also makes them more responsive to pain and fear.
Women are, by nature, more sociable, while men are more aggressively competitive. That is why men often fight.Women tend to have more fully developed organizational skills.
Long term memory is stronger in female. That’s why they tend to remember all the details, while men usually keep the main point in mind.Women are more oriented toward and have better memories of faces, men of things
Male and female hormones also influence the brain activity differently. The male hormones make them more agressive where as female hormones make more emotional behavior, increase in learning and memory.
Women are more prone to experience depressionand post traumatic stress. Men are more likely to suffer from schizophrenia, alcoholism or drug-abuse. These are proposed to result from their distinctive wiring patterns.
Males are more like hunters and females are gatherer. But as brain connections change as a result of experience and learning, just as muscles or skills develop with usage and practice. Male and female brains may start out similar but become different over time as boys and girls are treated differently, and for whom there are different expectations. How we’re brought up plays a major role in how we act, think, and believe and our brains may adapt accordingly.
A conclusion is that it’s both—there may be neurological differences, but there are also cultural influences. Let’s neuroscientists debate. This debate is likely to continue another hundred years.
